Update

The book is coming along really well! After receiving outstanding input from beta readers, I’m integrating many of their suggestions. I love how readers pick up different nuances. The most critical reader led me to flesh out a few of the characters further and clarify a rather confusing issue with pronouns. LOL, I introduced a character, Teresa, in Chapter 9 but referenced her as him through most of the chapter. I completed the chapter 9 review today and will complete the rest of the book review this week. Thanks to all of you who helped with the beta reading!

And for everyone, a unique opportunity is coming to read the book's first part for free. When that happens, I would love your help in sharing it with your friends. My target is to get that out by Valentine’s Day! Be on the lookout.

Now, on to stage 3 of the healing process.

Stage 3 - Be in the Present

The present is always happening, but where are we? Are we thinking about yesterday, last year, or worried about next week?

I used to live in the mental past, worrying about my mistakes and how I’d be better off had I done it differently. This led me to worry about the future, projecting my past into the great unknown, poisoning it with regret and shame. This led to mistakes in the present, as my eye was focused elsewhere, and the pattern continued.

Now, I love practicing being conscious and present. If I am able to do so, my life goes pretty well. I deliver way more, feel better about myself, and have massively reduced stress. I suppose it is a key reason I’ve authored or co-authored six published books since 2017 and am in the process of writing several more, including The Lowly Prophet. And writing is a relatively small part of my workday. I share this to inspire you with what is possible when we live in the present.

Being present also changes relationships, as we let go of the past and see a person as they are and not as we made them to be. Do I greet my wife in the morning carrying over an argument we had three days ago? Or, have I laid that to rest in my heart, embracing her today with new eyes, seeing her as she is rather than clothing her with my unhealed perceptions, which are likely false anyway?

Being present is a gift we give ourselves, and it showers others with the love automatically emanating from this state. If you want to explore more with me, I will share an audio on the other side of the paywall. I made the paid subscription about as low as I could while keeping that content private.
